🎤 FAQ - What camera settings are best for family portraits?

Family portraits tend to be semi-formal to formal groups of people from 2 upwards. The most important setting for this is aperture. Aperture controls the depth of focus in a scene. With the smallest aperture (depends on your lens, it could be 4.5 or as low as 1.2) there is less in focus, allowing you to create a scene where the background is out of focus.
For a family of 4 I generally wouldn’t recommend anything lower than 5.6 to make sure everyone is in focus. As the family groups get larger, you need to up the aperture to reflect that.
