For the Photographer In You - Getting Better Shots - Using Leading Lines

Lines in a photograph can draw the viewer to look at the most important aspects of the photograph.  They can take you on a journey through the picture.  These can include fences, roads, railway lines and pretty much anything that follows a path.  As a photographer, very often, you want to show a particular aspect within the photograph - it is what attracted you to take the photo in the first place.  Leading lines can help you emphasise it.

Lines that begin at the lower left and travel towards the upper right are particularly strong.  Take a look at the two photographs below to get an idea.

Just a note…lines that lead out of a photograph, will take the view out of the picture and are often best avoided.
Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun -

I had to share a couple of photos of the beautiful english countryside….we didn't actually stay in this beautiful cotswold stone house, but one quite like it nearby!
Quote of the Month

'Night night, sleep tight.' ~ Unknown

I had to include this….continuing in the UK theme.  The castle we visited had an explanation for the origin of this quote.  Suggesting that it came from Elizabethan times - 14th Century, when royalty would travel with their army of knights and each evening the knight assigned would make the royal bed by tightening ropes across a frame.  The royal would then say….'Night, Knight, sleep tight'…..fascinating…no idea if it is true!
September Project

Try to experiment with leading lines to draw your viewer to the main object of your photograph!…I'd love to see any of your creations!
And that's it for September!

Thank you for reading my September newsletter, do get in touch if there is anything you would like to know more about!

Best wishes,

Tracey xx
