For the Photographer in You - Tagging and Google Vision

Tagging images with meaningful data is boring, laborious, and time-consuming at a minimum and sometimes it can be completely frustrating.

It is not something that many people enjoy spending time doing so when I came across an app that does a pretty good job of it, I was excited!  I use Adobe Lightroom to catalogue images and perform basic editing and was thrilled to find out that Google's image analysis software (Google Vision) is available to use within Lightroom through a third-party plug-in.  There are several thousand images you get to tag free of charge and you can make a selection of images and set the process going to tag the images and come back later…boom!

Of course, if you don't use Lightroom, there are several apps that you can load your photos into which will help you tag them such as ACDSee for windows and even Apple's 'Photos' app. .  But one of the major advantages of using something like Google vision is the relative automation of the process.

Good luck and I would love to hear your stories about making progress with image tagging

Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Rewards From Digital Assets and Tagging

So for the past few months I have been digitizing some of my family’s old photographs and scanning old negatives. It has been fascinating and exhausting to go through the lengthy process of digitizing images from the past. I wanted to tell you the story about one collection of images that I found out more about through running google vision against the images. I introduced Google vision in the previous section as an automated solution to tagging images based on the content of the image. It will identify and create adjectives to describe the content of an image and even recognizes well known landmarks. The particular images, I'm thinking of in my collection were from the 1970s and I had no idea what their location was. Google vision identified them as Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace Memorial in Kentucky!! I was shocked and so thrilled to know this as I was too young to remember the visit. Here are a few of the images...and combining the old with the new...a couple of images of artwork that also is tagged with Lincoln!

Quote of the Month

I leave you with a Mother’s Day quote that I love!

"A mother - when you're a child she walks before you to set an example. When you're a teenager she walks behind you to be there should you need her. When you're an adult she walks beside you so that as two friends you can enjoy life together” ― Unknown
