Newsletter June 2018

Good morning and welcome to June!

I wanted to get a quick, thank you in to everyone that has followed my on Instagram and liked some of my posts!  I have tried to be more active with Instagram postings and love all your responses and likes….I have found that Instagram is a great medium for more frequent postings and is really well designed for sharing photos...yay...and thanks to everyone who persisted in telling me that I should be using it :-)  My Instagram galleries continue this month with young expressions being the focus for June.  Some of the cutest faces you will see will appear this month...so don't miss it!!!

So, you know when you are looking for a new car and you are thinking about a particular manufacturer? What happens...suddenly, you see that manufacturer everywhere...you've never noticed it before...how can this be?  I think our brains have so much sensory input that we cannot possibly absorb it all so we focus, selectively and that depends upon what is current in our minds.  Recently, I have read a few books and come across the concept that if you find your 'why', you will endure any 'how'.  I just love this simple phrase that can be used in so many areas of life to make sure we are true to ourselves and hopefully on the right path for us.  Check out my quote at the end of the newsletter to read the exact words of a very famous German philosopher who originally came up with the phrase originally.

The latest and greatest comes from a wonderful shoot I had recently with a family with a new baby!!  A new addition to the family is always exciting and most times, brings new and unpredictable changes to every family.  Check out some of the images I captured during the early days from this family.

I am so excited to announce that the summer vacation photo competition is back!!  This gets bigger every year and I can't wait to see what you will all bring to me this year!  As always the person with the winning image is awarded a complimentary photo session with me...check out the details below.

For the photographer in your gets you on your way with a few bits of advice for capturing vacation images...maybe some things you haven't thought of so take advantage of the tips.

Finally, my own camera fun comes from a recent hike I went on..and I will apologize now if you have had enough of green hills and flowers, but while they are still around, I couldn't resist another opportunity to share a few more with you.

Enjoy your June and stay well!!

Cheers,

~ Tracey xxx

For the Photographer in You - Holiday Vacation Photos and Unusual Angles

Holiday photos want to be fun and remind us of the great time we had there as well as the people we were with and not forgetting, they must say something about the location of the holiday.  But we don't want them all to the look the same!!  Or to look just like someone else's...another picture of the kids in front of another landmark can get a bit boring!  So how can we switch things up to improve the images?  Here are a few tips...

Take the photos around the vacation that tell the story...like the image below of the car navigation system...of course there maybe some aspects of the holiday that you don't want to remember..thats ok to leave those out, but even if it wasn't the most inspiring aspect, it is sometimes worth documenting to tell the full story!
Use angles to create different images and 'drama'.  Don't be self conscious!!  Be brave, lie down in the sand or climb up on top of a park bench.  Just these small changes will allow you to capture images that are different and you may like what you see!  You may also find that behaving in this crazy way, creates expressions from your family that you will love!
Wait for the right moment to snap!  This is where patience comes in and having a camera that can capture the instant you visualize.  All DSLR cameras offer the ability to capture exactly what you see through the viewfinder and to take the photo the instant you press the shutter release!  Most current mirrorless cameras are pretty instant as well.
Give it a go!!  With digital photography, what do you have to lose?  Even when you think you are going to get nothing...that it's too dark, too far away, too close, too fast moving...give it a try, you might be surprised with what you get.  I took this at the Winnie the Pooh ride at Disney in California and while it wasn't the fastest moving ride, it was pretty dark.  I am so happy how this turned out and now have it to add to our memories of the vacation!
Mix up close up photos with distance ones!  The close ups will capture expressions and little details of the subjects, and the far away ones will give you a sense of where you are and the size of the subject.
Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Hiking Through East Bay Hills

Even with the yellow gold fields getting taller and taller, they are still so spectacular and I don't believe we have had a year here where the grass has still been green in May!!  I recently went on a hike through a spectacular valley and took a few shots…

Quote of the Month

It is quoted many times by lots of different people, but I think, here is the original...
