Newsletter January 2018

Good morning everyone

A very happy new year to you all!! I hope you have recovered from any festive overindulgence!

As I was researching the material for this newsletter, I realised that this is my 50th one!...and it is all thanks to you....my readers!! So a huge thank you for sticking with me, I know how much clutter we all get in our inboxes these days and I'm so thrilled that you have decided that my newsletter shouldn't be added to the unsubscribe pile!

This newsletter is all about inspiration and new beginnings...I love the start of the New Year, full of promise and an open page ahead of you!  What will you sketch on yours?  Make sure you make 2018 the year you reach for the sky!!!

A slightly different slant on the latest and greatest this month...looking back at one of my very first shoots here in California....in one of my favorite locations in the local area!

The special this month is all about graduating seniors...not long now!!!  I have a special offer to help you get you on your way with images you will love for your graduation cards.  So make a point of getting in touch with me if you still need photographs.

True to the theme of this post, 'For the Photographer in You' comes with a few tips for allowing inspiration and creativity to be part of your everyday life.  Not only does it make your life more interesting, it can be very exciting and fulfilling as well!! So don't miss out, check out my tips below!

The 'Little Ditty About my own Camera Fun' section should make you smile.  In the UK these little characters are called Sylvanians, but here in the US they are called Calico Critters...I would love to know the history here!!

Quote of the month comes from an amazing movie I saw last month....actually there are tonnes of quotes from that movie that I could have used...find out the quote at the end of the newsletter.

Of course, I always include links to my old newsletters so if there is something you want to go back and take a look at!!

Finally, take a look at the BBC pictures from 2017; it provides a fantastic snippet of outstanding images from events around the world during 2017.

I wish you all the very best for 2018!  I would love to hear from you and of course, your cheers on Facebook and Instagram 😊

Thanks so much for reading,

~ Tracey xxx

For the Photographer in You - Get Your Inspiration

Do you have lots of ideas of things you want to photograph or are you someone who is struggling with ideas, or where to begin?  Would you like to feel more inspired to take your camera out with you and learn more about how to take better photographs?

In the quiet moments, listen to your ideas and thoughts and when you strike upon an idea, write it down. You don't have to be a list person to commit things to paper, but if you don't take that extra step, very often your ideas will disappear and the frantic 'busyness' of life will take over.  So allow yourself to have quiet time, whether it's in the shower or walking or that moment lying in bed while you are waking in the morning...listen to your inner voice to allow those amazing ideas to present themselves!  Then...write them down!

When you are seeking ideas of things you can do, you can go back to those that you have written down and choose one that inspires you to get going.

Sometimes, you find you were so excited about an idea when you thought of it...perhaps was inspired by another photograph or photographer or by something someone said and you write it down and come back to it several days later and the energy and spark that the idea had at the time is gone and the empty words are left on the page leaving you wondering why you were so excited about it.  Don't worry, that is perfectly normal and happens to me all the time.  That is the moment when you just need to show up...take the idea and get out there minus some of the initial enthusiasm.  Trust yourself, and you will probably find that the excitement and inspiration returns along the way.

I find that browsing lots of different media that I love and absorbing that creativity allows me to generate lots of ideas of my own, so, listen to lots of music, browse Pinterest and Instagram, look at magazines, read articles, listen to Ted talks.  All of this material helps to generate and strengthen ideas that you can take forward and do something with.

If you are inspired by anyone in particular, make sure you follow them on your favorite social media, a small dose of words or images from someone you admire and respect can boost your performance beyond measure!

Finally, I use an app called Wunderlist it is great for making and organizing ideas and things to do and also has a scheduling tool built in if you want to set a deadline for the item.

Good luck!!

Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Calico Critter Fun

Sometimes I just like to play about with the kid's character toys and create something.  I just love this little guy...sitting on the biggest conker I could find from one of my hike's, nestled in a bed of fall-color splashed Japanese maple leaves!  I love the cheeky grin on his face and the sense of achievement he portrays sitting atop the conker!  Sometimes a little frivolous fun can set you on the right path!!
