Newsletter December 2017

Good morning everyone

Rock on the holiday season, meet Snowflake, our Elf on the shelf.  She is back to keep us all in check!!  Follow me on Instagram to catch where she decides to hang out during December!

This months latest and greatest comes from a wonderful family celebrating a big birthday!  It’s a bit different this time....I have only included candid examples from the shoot, and they tell their story!

The December special comes designed to help out with gift ideas and makes booking a photo session even better value.  Check out all the details below and do get in touch if you have any questions!

For the photographer in you focuses (photography really does come with so many puns....sorry 😂) on getting those lovely holiday lights at their best in your photographs.  Get a few tips help you capture your own festive photographs.

My own camera fun brings you a few images from our recent trip to Monterrey Peninsula.  Photographing sunsets never gets old, apart from the beauty, perhaps it is also so mesmerizing because of the awe that accompanies the sunset declaring the end of the day, something that we can only watch in wonder!  Below are a few of my favorite images from the evening.

Finally, I wish you all a very happy holiday, whichever one you are celebrating!.  As always, I would love to hear from you and of course, your cheers on Facebook and Instagram 😊

Thanks for reading,

Latest and Greatest
This is what happens with a party in the house!!!  Thanks so much to this wonderful family for asking me to photograph their family birthday party. Siblings from all over the state arrived to a fabulous celebration of Mom's 75 years!!  I feel so privileged to have been able to photograph it for you special people!! Some images lend themselves to black and white much better than others and I'm not a huge fan of mixing black and white and color...so today's latest and greatest comes in monochrome!

For the Photographer in You - How to Photograph Holiday Lights

The holiday time of year just wouldn’t be the same without a few lights and they also create a wonderful opportunity to take photographs that you can’t get during the rest of the year.

When is the Best Time?

You want the holiday lights to look great, but you don’t want everything else to be too dark.  Sometimes the best time is just before it gets dark, but it is getting dark.  At this time, the holiday lights will stand out, they wont be overpowered by the daylight and there will be enough ambient (background light, natural or artificial) light to allow you to capture some of the background as well, like the room or the street.

What is a Good Shutterspeed Setting

A slow shutterspeed is necessary to capture the festive lighting, something between 1/4 second and 20 second always works well.  This is too slow to hold by hand so if you don’t have a tripod, try resting the camera on a wall or something.

Switch off the Flash

Flash will ruin the look of the lights, if they are close by and will not have any effect, if the lights are far away.

Happy snapping!!

Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Sunset on Monterey Peninsula

Capturing the sunset is definitely one of those times when the reality is nearly always more spectacular and breathtaking than the image of it!  I'm sorry I can't do more to transfer just how beautiful it was there last week....there is very little editing in these images and normally I would prefer the landscape aspect of the images, but the size of the images in the newsletter severely restricts the power of the content.  Anyway...enough of the 'making excuses', enjoy the images and imagine the smells and sounds.  I love the quiet photographer in the last image...waiting for the moment!
