Capture This - California Gold Fields
Good morning everyone,

I must apologise for being so quiet!!  A number of things have kept my fully occupied recently and my blog has taken a back stage role!  But!  No longer...here we go with May and I hope you enjoy the show!

Every time I look for yellow flowers its seems that I find another even more spectacular display, it just can't keep on getting better can it?  These images are from an location that's not quite as accessible as some...in fact it's pretty inaccessible, particularly at the moment!  But the effort was well worth it!  When I got to the impressive display of flowers, I found that they were so tall...some well over 10 feet, that the weight of their sky-reaching branches couldn't be held up by their stems anymore and the path I was on was completely blocked with overhanging gorgeous yellow golden flowers.  I have never met anyone on this trail in all the times I have walked it except when I was just finished taking these images...he said the same!!  At least  two of us enjoyed the impressive display.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the images.

With the images below I tried panning the camera with a slow shutter speed to allow the movement to create a more watercolour painting look.

The following image I shot with a fairly wide open aperture to narrow the depth of field and allowed the yellow flowers to provide just the background colour for the shoot of grass. An aperture of 5.0 seemed about right to get the whole of the grass in focus and the background was a about 70 feet away so was completely out of focus.  I thought the contrast between the yellow flowers and the dark tree created a interesting background for the grass and emphasised the beautiful shape of the grass.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this blog. Next week will continue with flowers...some shots from my recent trip to Morgan Territory! This year because of the increased rainfall, the wild flowers in California are producing a spectacular display!  Don't miss it!!

As always…I would love to hear your comments and images as well if you are also out there shooting blossom in May!!

Cheers
