Capture This - Endless Snow
Good morning everyone,

I just had to do one more blog on the chilly February theme.  The snow in these images was just beautiful and i managed to have my camera on the only day with sunshine!  Yay!

As usual, I have included the camera settings for all the images.  Most of them have a pretty small aperture in order to maintain as much in focus as possible and to get as much texture as I could out of the snow.

I tried to capture the vast expanse of the mountains and the contrast between the sharp rugged rocks and the smooth flowing snow.  See if you can spot the hiker in the 3rd image....give you and idea of the scale!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the images.

As if it's not enough to be surrounded by the vast stunning moutnains.....Imagine the feeling floating through the air as well! Before you ask....I'm afraid it isn't me in these images!.....but you never know maybe next time.

The final couple of images demonstrate the difference in capturing a starburst between two of my lenses.  The first one was with my 50mm prime lens and the second, a much wider 20mm prime.  Notice that both of the images were taken with exactly the same settings, but the starburst effect on the second image is much more impressive!

Starbursts occur when you and a light source that is much brighter than the surrounding environment as in the examples below with the blue sky.

You also need a small aperture - f16 normally works very well.  Watch out for the flare....you can see this a little in my images - he greenish round light below the sun inside the starburst.  Sometimes this effect can look good, but in any cases, it is just distracting in the image....

Thank you for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this blog. Next month I just have to cover blossom....it seems to be everywhere and all the rain has made it really stunning!

As always, do get in touch if you have any questions or comments and of course I would love to see any images you would like to share this month.  I look forward to hearing from you,

Cheers
